They made several attempts at rescue without prevail. The storm drain was accessible on both ends by manholes. Drain pipe was approximately 4-5 feet under the parking lot. Crews used the 4 gas meter to analyze atmospheric conditions in the manholes. All reading were within normal limits. It was determined that the manholes were non-permit required confined spaces. Animal Control requested that crews "encourage" the kitten towards the downhill side with hose streams. Crews entered the manhole with a 1.75" handline. The kitten was successfully encouraged to the downhill manhole where it was retrieved by Animal Control. No other fire department services needed. Rescue Engine 2 returned to service.
