What is a DMV stop and why do I have a one?

The Treasurer has the authority to withhold state registrations by taxpayer’s social security number for vehicles owned, or co-owned (cosigned), until all delinquent personal property taxes are paid in full by the owner or co-owner(cosigned). In addition, an administrative fee in the amount of $20.00, and a DMV Stop fee in the amount of $30.00, will be imposed to cover the cost of this enforcement action. Once we are notified of all delinquent personal property taxes and DMV fees are paid, the stop will be released by the end of the business day. If we aren’t notified of the payment, the stop will be released on the following business days report. Once the stop is removed, the taxpayer is eligible to register vehicle immediately.
